A randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled pilot clinical trial conducted by a research group evaluated the efficacy of the probiotic mixture B. longum and L. rhamnosus in improving the severity of 26 patients with alopecia areata (AA).
After 24 weeks of intervention, patients belonging to the probiotic group showed greater improvement than the placebo group, both in activity, inactivity and repopulation signs, as well as in the number of AA plaques and the affected area, observing a reduction in the surface area affected by AA.
