Feeding is a fundamental issue for the development of any baby, and therefore one of the main headaches for parents facing parenting. So, don’t worry if this is something, you’re worried about, it’s completely normal!
During breastfeeding a common concern is whether the baby goes hungry. It makes sense: controlling the amount of milk you drink is not easy, at least not as much as when you bottle-feed your baby.
The first thing we want to tell you is that you should be calm, this shouldn’t worry you in standard circumstances: As long as your baby is fattening and growing normally, his feeding is being correct and sufficient.
However, to put aside all doubt, we share a series of tricks so you can be sure your baby does not stay hungry.
Signs to know if my baby gets hungry
Growth
As we have already mentioned, this is the basis of everything. If during your visits to the pediatrician you are told that everything is going well, that your baby is developing normally, the rest of the guidelines will take a back seat.
Just remember that the percentiles are averages which means that there are babies above and below it. The important thing is that your baby grows regularly, not at the same rate as his or her cousin or other babies around you.
Crying
A satiated baby is usually calm, and it is even common for him to fall asleep after the feeding. So, as long as the baby cries, he or she may still be hungry.
However, if the baby is crying, you offer him the breast and he refuses it, the most normal thing is that your baby is not hungry and, therefore, the reason for his distress is different.
Depositions
Another very valid indicator to assess whether your baby is satiated is the rhythm of his bowel movements. If he wets his nappy several times a day, he is not a hungry newborn. Try to control the rhythm of their stools to make sure they are within the usual range.
Instinct
If you have to establish a hierarchy between the signs, you should look out for when your baby is hungry, your maternal instinct should be in second place. Listen to your intuition and you will rarely fail.
